American photographer Susan Lapides’ work focuses on people, culture, and place. Her subjects range from portraits of visionaries in Cambridge, MA to the fishing communities of New Brunswick, Canada.
Lapides has exhibited her St. George series at the Griffin Museum of Photography (Winchester, MA), Sunbury Shores Art Center and the Saint John Centre for the Arts (both in New Brunswick, Canada). It was also featured in Fraction Magazine, The Curated Fridge, (Somerville MA), and Lenscratch.
The Crustacean series was a 2019 Critical Mass Finalist, the 2018 recipient of the Beth Block Juried Membership Honoraria from the Houston Center for Photography and was featured on the 2020 Fence in Winchester, MA. Portraits from this series were also exhibited on The Fence 2020 in Winchester, MA., the Blue Sky Gallery in Portland, OR., the Los Angeles Center for Photography, the Center for Fine Art Photography in Fort Collins, CO., and the Margaret Julia Cameron awards in Barcelona, Spain. These portraits were also included in “Outspoken, Extended,” an invitational exhibit of seven women photographers at the Rhode Island Center for Photography in 2019. Her first solo exhibit of “Crustacean” was scheduled in New Brunswick, Canada in 2020 and was cancelled due to Covid-19.
Her photographs are in the permanent collections of the Fidelity Corporate Art Collection, and Cooke Aquaculture in New Brunswick, Canada as well as in many private collections.
Lapides is a graduate of Tufts University and the School of the Museum of Fine Arts. She resides in Boston, Massachusetts, USA and St. George in New Brunswick, Canada.
